History of Osbornville Baptist Church
In the early 1800s, a group of Christians gathered on wagons and traveled to the Burrsville section of Brick Township. They met with another group and then traveled to Manasquan Baptist Church to worship. Due to the distance, the Havens and other families of the area requested a letter of dismissal. On August 18, 1835, the Kettle Creek Baptist Church in Osbornville was officially organized. John Havens Jr. dedicated one acre of his farm, where a church building and burial ground were established in 1836.
That same year, Abraham Osborn Havens, son of John Havens Jr., was ordained and became the church’s pastor. On April 2, 1855, John G.W. Havens and his wife Ann sold the church property for fifty dollars to the trustees of Kettle Creek Baptist Church. The church adopted the name Osbornville Baptist Church on May 3, 1893. In 1901, the church building was moved from the cemetery to its current location at 366 Drum Point Road. Although the original building was destroyed by fire in 1920, it was rebuilt in 1922. A new church structure was built in 1967 and continues to serve the congregation today. Osbornville Baptist Church is the oldest congregation in both Brick Township and Ocean County.
In 2024, Osbornville Baptist Church united with Growing Faith Church to continue worshipping and serving as one body in Christ.
